7 Ways on How to Build Trust in a Relationship and Maintain a Good Relationship

If you are in a boy-girl relationship or in a marriage now, do you know that there are actually 7 concrete ways to build trust in a relationship? Statistics have shown that 8 or 9 out of 10 people do not know how to maintain a relationship. Often, people always think that it is essential for us to spice things up in a relationship. However, this is totally wrong! My advice to you is that, predictability is more important than variety in a relationship. The following seven methods are simple yet effective ways in building and improving the level of trust in a relationship.

First, as I said earlier, you need to have predictability in your relationship. Of course, you might be think that this is in contrast to the normal notion of you must "spice things up" to keep the relationship alive. It is true that we need to surprise our significant other by going to a new restaurant or giving him or her a surprise gift to make the relationship more interesting. However, these are not important and effective ways on how to maintain a good relationship. Instead, we should be consistent and firm in our behaviors and attitude towards making our relationships work. You have to acknowledge that trust in a relationship is built the basis of reliability and consistency every single moment.

Second, it is important that you match what you said with your body language. With this, I mean you must let your partner hear the words that you said in similarity to your body language. If you are saying you are happy but actually frowning on your face, then your love partner will never understand you. You need build trust with your love partner through the words and actions that you express. Bear in mind that when your words match your actions, then you will build a solid trust in a relationship.

Third, you must believe in your love partner's competency. You have to trust that he or she really care about this relationship with you. When you think otherwise, you are actually causing terrible destruction towards your relationship. If you cannot even believe that your love partner is competent in maintaining a good relationship, then you simply violate the trust in your relationship.

Fourth, avoid keeping secrets from him or her. From my personal experiences, secrets actually cause destructive damage to the trust in a relationship. You have to be honest and open with your love partner. Let out everything that you know to him or her. In fact, by keeping secrets, you are actually building tension in yourself and to the relationship. This will cause misunderstanding which may leads to breakup in the near future.

Fifth, do not fear letting him or her know about your needs. Never let him or her speculate about what you want or need. Simply allow them to know your needs. Statistics have shown that couples who do not let each other know their needs will cause misunderstandings and tensions in the relationship. Hence, let go of your fear and let him or her know about your wants and needs.

Sixth, you must learn to say no to any of your love partner's requests. Of course, when your partner decides to let you know about his or her needs, that is a marvelous thing. However, you are not obliged to say yes to everything. In fact, if you keep saying yes to all your partner's requests and needs, you are actually reducing the respect and trust that you partner can give you. By refusing to your partner's needs occasionally, you are actually helping to build more trust and respect in a relationship.

Last but not least, you must always be prepared to face growth bravely. Just like planting a flower, you need to first dig the soil and this refers to digging the dirt in your relationship and of course, it causes pain. However, through that pain, you are actually laying out the foundation by preparing the soil for future growth. Never reject growth. Be brave to embrace turmoil, crisis, and uncertainties in a relationship. By doing so, you will grow with your partner and learn to accept the things that you cannot change and have the courage to change the things that you can.

My bottom conclusion is that, if you really want to build trust in a relationship, you are bound to encounter a little pain here and there. Nevertheless, as you embrace the pain and find ways to work through it, you will actually emerge stronger from the ordeal and help to strengthen the relationship between you and your love partner.
